1. The flipped classroom

Consider the following video.

Think ... pair .... share!

With technology how we teach and the way we teach have a huge potential for change. Consider a flipped classroom model.

Do these sound familiar?

- Teaching to the middle.
- Higher level students not challenged.
- Struggling students not receiving enough effective remediation
- * 90% of classtime spent on delivery and review of content and 10% spent on application.
- Applying learned skills outside of class away from support and guidance that leads to frustration, struggles or simply giving up and not doing.
- not enough time for differentiation.

So think ... Content delivered outside of classroom and applied in the classroom.

All students are engaged and challenged.

Start small by considering doing a miniflip!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihggLVYYbcY&feature=related - Grade 3 even!

1. Introduce tommorrow's topic today!

Take up new content in the last part of the class and ask the students to respond via a survey. This way you can engage the students immediately the following day and then apply it.

polleverywhere.com : Watch a video and have students respond to a poll.
- those who do not have internet at home should be encouraged

Example. Watch video above and address the poll --> http://www.polleverywhere.com/free_text_polls/LTE4MjAzODA5MjU

2. Flip a lesson!

Start by using a video, interactive website that introduces a concept and work off of an open inquiry that is group based. Present and share at end and summate understanding.

Example. Chemical reactivity - http://ecommunity.pwsd76.ab.ca/course/view.php?id=1025

3. Go full flipped with a lesson set, unit or course!

5. Flipped Classrooms - It's not about the technology

Enhancing the class and learning opportunity by implementing specific technologies
- videos (for direct class instruction)
- collaboration tools (google docs)
- surveying tools (polleverywhere, smart response)
- mobile devices (cell,ipad, ipods)
- screencasting (targeted content)
- flip cameras (student/staff generated and published content)
- online assessment (moodle)
- document camara (sharing the experience, exemplary work)

6. Join a learning community
There is a wealth of resourceful individuals like you out there.

Consider joining a learning community at your subject level that is already doing this!

2. The document camera in the classroom
